Surfspots

Miramar
An elegant, upscale beach nestled between luxury hotels in Biarritz’s most exclusive district. You might stumble upon a lost Rolex in the san or spot a millionaire sunbathing au naturel. Miramar features a beach break that delivers good waves most of the time. Keep a close eye on the tides, as the sandy beach virtually disappears at high tide, making exits tricky. Watch out for strong currents and submerged rocks.
Grande Plage
Grand Plage is one of the best surf spots in Biarritz. Along the beach, three distinct peaks offer both right- and left-hand beach breaks. Rideable waves can usually be found throughout the day, regardless of swell size, direction, or tide. The beach is well protected from all wind directions, making conditions consistently favorable. Thanks to the powerful lights along the promenade, night surfing is even possible. Grand Plage has hosted major victories by some of surfing’s greatest legends, and it’s also the birthplace of the iconic Biarritz Surf Gang, who made history in the 1970s...Don’t miss their story on film.

beach of Côte des Basques
The most famous beach along the European coastline, voted as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The Côte des Basques beach is the birthplace of Biarritz’s surf history, where the very first surfers in Europe stood up on a wooden plank and enjoyed the rush of being pushed by the smooth, raw natural energy of a wave. This beach is especially known for the long right hander wave called Belza
, named after a gorgeous historic building that sits majestically on the rock outcrop on the north end of the beach.
Marbella
A local’s spot with no car parking and a challenging wave with strong currents at times. Many locals can be found there who want to protect their playground. It is the spot where Axel, our surf instructor calls his home. Pay attention to the tides here. A charming rustic little bar called Le Debololo
sits on top of the beach cliffs overlooking the surf break – a perfect spot for a sunset drink or apero
with the locals.
